Devotion & Duty – Figures of Inspiration

This week saw the passing of The Queen. A stalwart icon within the world for the past 70 years. Regardless of your opinion of the royal family, you cannot dispute her devotion to duty & her ability to provide a focal point in times of hardship or happiness.

Within our lives, we often look for role models & popular figures to inspire how to live. These figures can provide comfort when we are facing adversity as being able to relate to their previous experiences makes what we are facing more human.

Knowing you are not alone in your situation fuels optimism as if someone can face adversity and make it through why can’t you?

One of the most impactful displays in her reign was the passing of her husband. The funeral was held under covid-19 restrictions leading to an iconic photo of her mourning her husband by herself.

“Grief is the price we pay for love.” – Queen Elizebeth II

At this time, the country faced numerous hardships that came with the coronavirus pandemic, and the head of state was leading by example. From her experience and wisdom, we were reassured that this too shall pass.

Who Is Looking At You?

We are all fortunate to have experienced our own life stories, some with more hardship than happiness & some the other way around. Through this, we not only develop the power to connect with others and express empathy when others experience a similar hardship but we also learn that there is a way through.

In our lives, we have far more impact than we know. Our daily interactions are interpreted with those we encounter daily in ways we often overlook.

Understand that within your community you could be the figure people look to in times of hardship. Not because you are a national icon but because of your relationships with people in your environment.

Not many of us see ourselves as stoic figures of wisdom & rightly so, but do not underestimate the impact your words and behaviours have on the people in your community.

This week choose to display the behaviours you would expect of those you admire. Your behaviour is a choice & through this, you can be a positive force in your environment.

Summary

None of us will have a large-scale impact like her royal highness but even if you can positively impact one person in your community you are still making the world a better place.

This week Jordan Peterson said,

“We stumble plenty, but we still walk uphill.”

In life, some stumble more than others but if you can help people up along your own journey you may find it reciprocated when you need it most.
